An incredible end to the day as Men’s Rugby take the win!
The Swansea sun came out to play this year, and with a sell-out crowd, Swansea Bay Sports Park was buzzing with excitement amongst a sea of green and red, with a record number of students in attendance!
The day started nice and early with Golf kicking off at Clyne Golf Club following by the Athletics club down at the track! By 10am, Swansea Bay Sports Park was packed with jolly students cheering on their respective teams! While the overall Varsity Sheild result was in favour of Cardiff this year, our teams put on an excellent display of sportsmanship, and took on each and every fixture with determination and pride!
This year, Swansea University doubled their 2023 score from 6 to 13.5 with the overall Sheild result coming in at 13.5 – 32.5 to Cardiff! Swansea displayed some strong wins from the following:

- Rugby League
- Men’s Futsal
- Women’s Hockey
- Men’s Canoe Polo
- Men’s Freshers Rugby
- Women’s Football
- Swimming
- Golf
- Aerial
- Men’s Ultimate Frisbee
- Men’s Water polo
- Men’s Fencing
- Men’s Rugby
After a busy day supporting the teams at Swansea Bay Sports Park, students and staff moved over to Swansea.com Stadium ready to spectate for the events of the day – Men’s and Women’s Rugby! The women’s team fought hard in every minute of the game, but unfortunately Cardiff left with the win with a final score of 12-71.
To end the day, the men’s team secured an incredible show-stopping win, taking the Varsity Rugby Cup for 2024, and coming away with an impressive score of 44-28! Peter Vicker’s who led the team to their victory said “I can’t really put it into words! After the year we’ve had, and the boys to turn it around and end like this, I think it shows our character and that we deserve to be in BUCS Super Rugby!.”
Once again, Swansea University students have shown admirable behaviour leading up to this event and on the day of the Welsh Varsity, and continue to display incredible determination and respect!
The Green and White Army never fail to disappoint as they turn up in thousands to support our players! Thank you to all students, staff, partners, sponsors, and all that were involved in making this day another special one to remember – we’ll see you next year in the capital!
